The Lightmongers are priveledged to be affiliated to New College Worcester for blind and partially sighted students.
The Master, Mr Rod Bennion OBE and Mrs Liz Bennion joined by Past Master John Otten, were invited to New College Worcester for their ‘Clelebration Day’, which is also their annual prize giving day on 4th July 2015. Their guest speaker was a former student of the College, David Clarke, who although completely blind has been a very successful as a member of the blind football team in the Paralympics in 2012. He has also made a successful career in the financial industry.
The Lightmongers sponsor a prize for Science Innovation and this, the first year was with Year 11 (16/17 year olds). They undertook to create a model electronic remote control car. They worked in four pairs to create 4 cars. Three of the teams actually completed this remarkable achievement and the College decided all three teams deserved the prize jointly.
The Master presented our Lightmongers’ Science Innovation Prize and Certificate to these 6 students.
Also the Master was pleased to be able to award a cheque for £3000 to the College from our charity account to the Principal, Mrs Mardy Smith OBE.
