On Saturday 8th July New College Worcester (NCW), with which the Lightmongers are affiliated, had their annual ‘Celebration Day’ and prize giving.
NCW is a secondary residential school for the blind and partially sighted and the Company is proud to present their annual Science Innovation Prize to the most outstanding student undertaking an Extended Project Qualification (EPQ) for an innovative project. This year it was won by a student with Alstrom Syndrome, a very rare condition mainly causing blindness. Her project involved research into her condition and information for other young people. The prize was presented by Past Master John Otten.
The main guest was Lord Chris Holmes, the blind paralympic swimmer and he gave a most inspirational speech.
