Award Winners

Presented at Livery Dinner Friday 27th March 2009

 

Over 200 members and guests attended the Spring 2009 Livery Dinner which was held in Merchant Taylors’ Hall. The Master, Mr David Rowden, presided.

 

The principal speaker, Alderman Sir David Howard Bt, who is also an Honorary Liveryman of the Company, proposed the toast to “the Worshipful Company of Lightmongers, may it flourish root and branch forever”, to which the Master responded.

 

The Master then presented four education awards:

 

The Geoffrey Hall/Lightmongers Merit Award to Mr Neil O’Leary by the Master for his outstanding contribution to the work of the department of the BSc Optometry & Visual Science at London City University. For his PhD, Neil is currently investigating the use of the confocal scanning laser ophthalmoscope in glaucoma.

 

 

 

 

 

The David Hawes/Tridonic Atco Lightmongers Prize to Mr Steven Cook by Mr David Hawes for excellence on the lighting module of the MSc Sustainable Electrical Building Services Engineering course at Manchester University.

 

 

 

  

 

The David Green Channel Safety Systems/Lightmongers Prize to Mr Ben Jones by the Master for his in depth lighting design final year project of the BSc Hons. Building Services course at London South Bank University

 

 

 

 

 

The Canary Wharf Group/Lightmongers Prize to Mr Richard Kimber by Mr Andrew Heath-Richardson of Canary Wharf for his in depth lighting design final year project of the B.Eng Energy Engineering course at London South Bank University

 

 

  

 

 

 

Award Winners Presented at the Court Dinner on 17th September 2008 

 

At the court dinner held at Tallow Chandlers’ Hall on 17 September 2008, the Master, Mr Martin Gratte, presented two awards.

He gave the Raymond Reid/Lightmongers Award for exceptional merit and achievement on the BA (Hons) Lighting Design course at Rose Bruford College to Daniel Leman.

The best student undertaking the lighting module of the BA (Hons) Stage Management and Technical Theatre course at Guildhall School of Music & Drama was Nicholas Woolley who received the Wila Lighting/Lightmongers Prize.

The best student of the year on the LET Diploma in Lighting course, London South Bank University, was Myrto Kanakaki. Myrto has also qualified as an electrical engineer and, as she currently works in Athens, was unable to attend the presentation to collect the award in person

At the Members Dinner held at Haberdashers’ Hall on 7 November 2008, The Master, Mr David Rowden, officiated when awards to affiliated HM Services were presented on behalf of the Company by Honorary Liveryman the Rt Honorable Baroness Boothroyd. In each case, the award winner’s Commanding Officer read the citation.



The Ian Crosby/Lightmongers Achievement Award was to Lance Corporal Graham Smith, 579 Field Squadron of the Territorial Army (101 City of London Engineers Regiment).

The David Rowden/Lightmongers Merit Award went to Petty Officer Neil Giles and Leading Logistician Jonathan Barnes, representing the entire Catering Srrvices personnel of HMS Illustrious.

The Patricia Brain/Lightmongers Merit Award went to Senior Aircraftsman Martin Taylor, 606 (Chiltern) Squadron Royal Auxiliary Air Force.
